Beating The Blues: Here’s Helpful Advice
If you are feeling down, stay away from sugar. This even includes things like honey and fruit juice. These sugars are incorporated into the bloodstream at a quicker rate than carbohydrates from things like whole grains. This means that the person consuming the food will get a quick infusion of energy but will then feel tired and depressed later.
One way to combat depression is to stay socially active. Whenever you feel depressed, you may not want to do things that you normally enjoy. Even so, it is important to keep them up. Live life normally and do as you normally would. If you avoid normal activities, you may feel even worse.
Try to change your thinking patterns. If you are thinking something about yourself, consider if you’d ever make that statement about another person. If you say no, then you’re being unfair to yourself. Revise these thoughts in a manner that is more constructive and authentic by creating statements that give you suggestions about the problem.
Exercise on a daily basis. It’s been proven in studies that people who find time for 30 minutes of exercise daily respond much better to treatment. Exercise can even replace antidepressants. Simply taking the stairs or parking your car a little further from the store can benefit your physical and mental health.
Try meditation to deal with depression symptoms. As you become calmer, your blood pressure will decrease and your mood will improve.
In order to control your depression, you need to get control of your thoughts. Avoid buying into the negative connotations attached to the word depression. It is a terrible way to describe how you’re feeling, and it can have a negative effect on your state of mind. There are many other ways you can describe how you are feeling such as “not great.” Use these phrases instead, and you will find yourself becoming more optimistic.
You can make a huge dent in lifting your depression by following the advice I gave in this blog. Make sure if you make changes in your life you do so slowly so that you can see what is really helping you and what really didn’t make much of a difference.
